Our CIWL Orient Express sleeping car has traveled colorful routes through France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Greece, Romania, and to Constantinople (Istanbul). Placards throughout the car are in French, English, and Turkish ! Our other sleeping car, the CIWL-P was constructed at the end of World War II under the Marshall Plan by the Compagnie Internationale des Wagons Lits (CIWL) in France under license of the Baldwin Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The CIWL was the builder of the sleeping and dining cars for the Orient Express, the Trans European Express (TEE), and the Paris-Lyon-Mediterranean (PLM) railroads. The CIWL also fabricated the Armistice Wagon used for the signing of the Armistice at the end of World War I (1914-1918).
Only one other CIWL-P exists, in the Cité du Train Museum. Our cars have been fully restored with air conditioning, wi-fi, and flat-screen TV in all cabins.
The sleek blue lines of our Orient Express sleeping car invite you to dream in comfort about its many travels, and the international celebrities that may have shared your cabin -- Marlene Dietrich, Brigitte Bardot, Winston Churchill, Maurice Chevalier ? Will there be romance in Paris, intrigue in Berlin, or adventure in Istanbul ? You can join these memories. We offer cabins for 1, 2, 3, or 4 persons.
There now exist only two examples of our CIWL Grand Wagon Lit (sleeping car) of the Grand Lines, the other being at the world's largest train museum, Cité du Train in Mulhouse, France.
